Obituary for Barbara Antush

Barbara  Antush
Barbara Antush was born February 14, 1916 and passed away at age 101 on May 20, 2017 in Yakima. Born in Tacoma, she grew up in the shadow of Mt. Rainier on the Blau Farm just north of Eatonville.

Barbara was awarded the Senior Honor Cup when she graduated from Eatonville High School in 1934, attended Knapp’s Business College and worked as a bookkeeper at Hunt & Mottet Wholesale Hardware.

Barbara met her husband of 62 years, Joseph Antush, at a Halloween Dance in 1940. He preceded her in death as did her sister Agnes Kropf Kolb and brother Jack Blau.

Barbara was active in the St. Joseph’s Altar Society and Circle No. 3, the PTA, her Bridge Club and Sewing Circle. She also chaired the Pregnancy Aid Society at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Barbara is survived by daughters Marie (Gene) Courtney, Barbara (Brian) Beatty, Marilyn (Bill) Proby, sons Phil (Henrietta) Antush and Mark Antush and sister Mary McFadden of Spanaway. She had 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Tacoma at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 27, 2017, preceded by the Rosary at 10:30am. Reception to follow and interment at Calvary Cemetery. Viewing will be from 1:00 to 5:00 pm on Friday, May 26th at the Funeral Home. Donations may be made in memory of Barbara Antush for PREPARES (pregnancy aid) to Sacred Heart Catholic Church 4520 McKinley Ave, Tacoma, WA 98404, or a charity of your choice.
