Obituary for Mary Margaret Underwood
Mary Margaret Underwood
Mary Margaret (Peg) died peacefully in her home of 63 years on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the age of 91. She was born in Olympia, WA, on June 6, 1923 to John (Jack) and Susan (Kauth) Fitzmorris. She attended St. Michael's Catholic School and graduated from Olympia High School. After graduation she worked for Sunset Life Insurance Company, in Olympia. She then moved to Seattle for work, returning to Olympia after 3 years, where she volunteered with the USO and as an Air Raid Warden, with her father, during WWII.
She met Joe in 1949 at a CYO church function. They were married June 17, 1950 at St. Michael’s church and then moved to Tacoma. In 1951, they purchased their one and only home. She then worked for the Heidelberg Brewing Co. until they started their family in 1951.
Peg was lovingly devoted to her family and her church. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, quilting and bowling. She belonged to YLI, BRAVE and Visitation Women's Club. She was a member of the Visitation Parish until her death.
Peg is preceded in death by her parents; sisters Bertha, Rosemary and LouAnn; brother John; daughter Nora and husband Joe. She is survived by brothers Tom (Winn) Fitzmorris and Dan Fitzmorris; sisters Susan Fitzmorris, Jackie Fouts and Maureen (Ken) Hekel ; children Mary Sue (Carlos) Velarde, Michael Underwood, Margaret (Don) Forseth, Steve (Maxine) Underwood, Kevin (Tamara) Underwood, Maria (Tom) Padukiewicz, Katie Underwood and Chris Underwood; 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, January 9, 2015, at 12 pm at Visitation Church. Rosary will be recited Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 7:00 pm, also at the Church. Interment at Calvary Cemetery.
